Everybody knows it is hard to find housing while you are in your home country, you can be involved in a scam or maybe the place you found it is not what you expected when you arrive…

So I’d like to share some tips with you about housing, maybe it will help you to avoid scams and find the best suitable place for you.

Where to look?

First tip is where you can find them. It is very common to look for housing on websites such as:

-Craiglist -Kijiji -ApartmentLover

You can also find on Facebook groups such as:

-Vancouver Rentals & Roommates -For Rent Vancouver -Facebook Marketplace with similar groups

Know your budget

Second tip is to know what you are looking for and what is your budget,if you are willing to have other roommates,if you want a place near a skytrain station or a bus stop, and how long it takes to get to your work or school/work.

Here in Vancouver they asked for it and it is usually half of the rent, they asked it to save the place for you and in the future to cover if you left the place with any damage.

SCAM alert

And lastly but super important, watch out for scams. Some of the red flags are rental prices that are too good to be true, asking for a deposit without meeting you or showing you the place and asking for too much information, such as your bank account, your SIN number, which is not legally required.

I hope this info helped you, and if you have any tips or story to share leave a comment below!
